Deb Gibbs

Deb’s experience ranges from regional to national and international. Her work over the past twenty years includes coaching, professional development design and facilitation, lecturing pre- and post-service teacher education (Massey University), and international curriculum review. She is passionate about mathematics teaching and learning and believes that all students can be successful in learning mathematics.

Deb has a particular interest in catering for underachieving students, through spatial reasoning, discourse, and the use of rich tasks to notice and respond to student needs. Through her consultancy work she has provided mathematics professional learning and curriculum development for schools in Switzerland, Angola, Thailand, New Zealand, Zambia, Cambodia, Tokelau.

Deb was the New Zealand National Leader for Programmes for Students, including Accelerated Learning in Mathematics (ALiM) and Mathematics Support Teacher (MST). She has been involved in creating and reviewing material for the Ministry of Education including Figure-it-out, Numeracy Project material and approved assessments. She has delivered workshops across the world.

Deb is a Ministry of Education accredited professional learning and development facilitator. She has strengths in acceleration practices, curriculum design and delivery and mathematics pedagogy. Deb supports teachers, academic assistants and leaders with Local Curriculum Design, mathematics content, pedagogy, assessment, data analysis, maths coaching and parent workshops.
