Scribo for Learning

Ministry Funding for Scribo

EDconnect is proud to support the delivery of Scribo in New Zealand schools . This Ministry of Education funded initiative provides targeted support for Years 6-10 students who are one or more years behind curriculum expectations in writing.

In 2025, EDconnect undertook extensive New Zealand trials to ensure this was the right online writing tool for our learners and teachers. Tested in real classrooms, including rural and small-school contexts, Scribo is practical, scalable, and aligned to the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum (October 2025).

The results were clear:

  • Significant acceleration for students below expectation
  • Increased writing volume and stamina
  • Stronger sentence control and structure
  • Improved spelling accuracy
  • Higher engagement, especially from reluctant writers
  • Reduced marking workload
  • Live feedback, data and reporting
  • Growing teacher understanding of the writing process

Teachers reported clearer visibility of progress and greater confidence targeting instruction and knowing what to teach next.

Scribo adapts to students’ learning needs and is designed to be used alongside a teacher to support students’ learning in writing.

Targeted Live Feedback

With Scribo, both process and product feedback is delivered real-time as students write. Teachers control the flow of feedback while being openly connected to student writing. The whole idea is that teachers spend minimal time correcting mechanical accuracy and more time focused on each student’s need.

Support That Builds Better Thinkers

Claro is a 24/7 safe writing coach that supports students while they write. It provides real-time guidance, prompts, and feedback to help students plan, draft, and improve their work. All done without ever giving them the answers, encouraging them to stay in the learning sweet spot. Claro keeps students focused, builds independent thinking, and helps them grow into confident writers.

Customisable Grading Rubrics

Scribo grades according to a New Zealand Writing Curriculum rubric, as well as e-asTTle and PAT Writing and individual school rubrics. Teachers trust Scribo to assess student texts consistently and deliver personalised feedback to keep self directed learning on track.

Progress Tracking

Scribo helps teachers monitor student improvement over time with comprehensive analytics. Teaching is more effective when teachers focus on specific learning points at a class-level. One-to-one teacher-student engagement is highly personalised connected by deep insights into each student’s learning needs.

Efficient Assignment Management

Teachers create, assign and mark student writing assignments all in one single workflow. Scribo reduces teacher workload, opening more time for more writing engagement. Students improve their writing when they are engaged in their learning sweet spot.
