Sandy Bornholdt

Sandy has been an educator for 30 years, working across Primary School, College and Maori Medium sectors as well as being a Co-Director and Facilitator in Professional Development Clusters.  Alongside this, she also spent several years as an Educational Consultant for a large IT company working in New Zealand Schools to support IT Networks, Student Management Systems and Online Learning Platforms.

In 2013 she formed her own company Rewired, designing and delivering customised STEM based Education Programmes to community-based groups and Iwi organisations.

Sandy’s mission in education is to prepare young people for the complex challenges of the 21st century. Her own passion and love for creative digital technologies is what ignites her drive for the use of digital technologies to help activate and engage ākonga with their learning. Working with multimodal texts, provides opportunities for ākonga and communities to engage with and build literary success, build interpretative capacities and build meta knowledge.

In 2017 Sandy won the, prestigious NEXT Foundation’s Expert Teachers’ Award for her work in her Maori Medium Kura developing a Design Learning Framework for all ākonga.

Promoting communities of thinking, developing Core Competencies and 21st Century Fluencies through Action, Expression and Engagement this Design Learning Framework puts the ākonga and metacognition at the centre and caters for the development of flexible learning pathways in teaching and learning.
