Rachael is Co-Director of Maori and Pasifika Support Services (MAPSS); which focuses on a range of services in the areas of language and culture, education, research and evaluation, governance and digital technologies, including app development. Prior to establishing MAPSS Rachael was the Education Manager of Kohuora Campus at the Auckland South Corrections Facility. She is also a former Lecturer in Education at the University of Auckland.
Rachael has extensive experience in both English and Maori-medium settings including kura, wharekura, secondary schools, tertiary teaching, and prison education. She is the Governance Facilitator for the build of New Zealand’s first purpose-built Maori-medium campus, Te Putahi Maori o Manurewa, which includes kohanga reo, kura, wharekura and wananga.
Rachael currently serves on the Boards of Education New Zealand, the Auckland Community Law Centre, and VOYCE: Whakarongo mai, an NGO which exists to amplify the voices of children in care to ensure that they are heard. She has previously served on the boards of NZQA, the Council for Manukau Institute of Technology, Man Alive, and the Auckland Kindergarten Association.
